By implementing some of these strategies into your daily routine, you’ll be positioning yourself — and your employees — to be more successful. While there have been many books written about these techniques, here are the strategies that can prove to be most successful.
Much is talked about the value of multi-tasking. People think that if they can only focus on one thing at a time, they aren’t doing as much as they possibly could.
The reality is that the exact opposite is true. It’s simply not possible to handle multiple tasks at the same time. When we try to multi-task, then, we are actually confusing our brains and hampering our overall productivity.
Instead, focus on only one thing at a time. This will help you complete every task much faster and more effectively.
Have Small Goals
People feel accomplished when they achieve goals. The problem with goals, though, is they’re often set too big. They are wide-reaching and take lots of time to complete. Because of this, goals aren’t achieved very often, which can cause people to become unmotivated.
A great way to counter this mindset is to set small goals. You can set daily, weekly and monthly goals that help keep you on track and allow you to celebrate small wins almost every day. This will help give you a more positive attitude about your days, which will make you more productive.
Personalize Your Daily Schedule
Even if all employees work the same schedule, it’s unlikely that they’re all productive at the same time of day. Some are morning people, while others perform better in the afternoon.
Figure out when you’re most productive, and arrange your daily schedule so you take on the day’s most important tasks at that time. This will give you the focus and energy you need to tackle your most pressing assignments of the day.
People tend to think that when they take a break, they are wasting time and not being productive. Again, the complete opposite is true.
Everyone needs to give their mind a break from time to time. Stepping away from the desk a few times a day will allow you to cool down, refresh and re-attack your work with a clear mind.
Taking a 15-minute break outside or walking the floors of the office can be enough to reinvigorate your efforts.
Stick to Time Limits
Your day can go off the rails quickly if you spend too much time on any one task. Scott Crockett suggests that you can avoid this by assigning a time limit to each of your tasks for the day.
Estimate how much time you think the task should take, and even set alarms for yourself if you find yourself losing track of time. This will keep you on task and on schedule to complete everything you need to by the end of the day — without overworking yourself.
